Second and third year overview (official)
Australia allows eligible working holiday makers to extend their stay by completing specified work. Each extension is 12 months.
Subclass 417 requirements
- Second 417: 3 months of specified work.
- Third 417: 6 months of specified work.
- UK passport holders applying on or after 1 July 2024 do not need specified work for second and third 417 visas.
Subclass 462 requirements
- Second 462: 3 months of specified work.
- Third 462: 6 months of specified work.
How Home Affairs counts the work period
Official guidance defines 3 months as 88 calendar days and 6 months as 179 calendar days, including weekends or rest days. You must complete the same number of normal work days or shifts as a full time employee in that role and industry.
