What counts as specified work (official)
Home Affairs defines specified work as work in a specified industry and area of Australia. The official pages list industries and eligible postcodes for regional, northern, remote, and disaster recovery areas.
- Plant and animal cultivation.
- Tourism and hospitality in eligible remote and northern areas (from 22 June 2021; eligible for applications from 5 March 2022).
- Construction in eligible regional or northern areas.
- Disaster recovery work in declared areas.
Minimum period and how it is counted (official)
Home Affairs defines 3 months as 88 calendar days and 6 months as 179 calendar days, including weekends or rest days. You must complete the same number of normal work days or shifts as a full time employee in that role and industry.
Evidence Home Affairs accepts
- Payslips and bank statements covering the period.
- Payment summaries or group certificates.
- Piece rate agreements if you are paid by output.
- Employer references and signed agreements for lawful deductions.
